Announcing New Beyond the Pleasure Principle – Reading Series

Daniel Avatar

This coming Thursday I will be starting a reading series on Freud’s Beyond the Pleasure Principle (1920). I will host this series via Zoom on Thursday nights starting September 24th. We will read the text closely and reference Lacan’s work throughout the series. On our first night, we will consider the famous “fort-da” game that Freud invokes in chapter two.

You can join us by reserving a spot at this link.

Hi Daniel! Mia here again– a psychotherapist and aspiring change maker/ seeker on the west coast…. I’ve been wanting to participate in your classes and this one in particular sounds great! Unfortunately I see clients at the time of this class on the west coast… is there any chance the course will be recorded, and for a donation I could watch the course and correspond with you some how throughout instead of participating live? It’s really not the same, but perhaps worth a try? I tried reading the pleasure principle article before and struggled with it. I learn better in a class/ through lecture and discussion. Reading is something i need to get much better at (shameful, but it’s true)– particularly psychoanalytic reading. In part it’s the languaging that is hard for me to understand what it means, and i struggle to grasp the concepts, and I loose attention so quickly… Anyhow, let me know what you think. Otherwise, if this doesn’t work, hopefully i can participate some other time in the future. Thank you! Mia
